We are so excited to share our Miami Falls project.
A full gut renovation was quite the undertaking as my first distance project. The clients purchased a 1980s ranch style home in Miami, Florida. While the layout was spacious, the home’s wall-to-wall marble was cold and overwhelming. Additionally, the dark kitchen was tucked away in a boxy corner, completely cut o! from the lush pool views, the natural light and the entertaining area. Updating the outdated bathrooms was also on the docket.
Working with Alisa Block Architect, we reimagined the layout of the common areas. By relocating the kitchen to the back of the home, we took advantage of the high ceilings and large expanse of sliding doors with views of their tropical backyard. What was once the kitchen, now became the husband’s personal gym, a pantry and a large laundry room.
In the Kitchen, the ceiling slopes down from 16 feet to meet 8-foot tall cabinetry. With the addition of a few strategically placed windows, we made a bold focal point along the back wall with an elongated plaster hood and zellige tile backsplash. Floating white oak shelves serve as a beautiful place to display cookbooks, glassware and fun decor.
The U-shaped kitchen now contains plenty of storage, a co!ee garage, double oven, and large side-by-side paneled refrigerator and freezer. The 12-foot island can easily fit their kids and friends while having plenty of space for baking and meal prep.
Painted Benjamin Moore Midnight, the island cabinetry contrasts beautifully with the Swiss Co!ee periphery and the Calcutta Gold marble countertops. Brass accents and two enormous Goodman Pendants from Visual Comfort add a golden touch. Completing the look are the Binah Counter Stools from local manufacturer Victoria’s Armoire.
What was once a dark, uninspired kitchen totally cut o! from the tropical views, is now the family’s favorite gathering space. The kitchen is truly the heart of this home. Check out the Smith Home Shop for all the sources.
