Smith Home Field Trip: Come Explore Summertime in Hunter, NY

Welcome to Smith Home’s all new website!

Working with the amazing team at the Interior Collective (IDCO), Smith Home completed our first ever brand refresh. I have been a fan of IDCO for years and working with them is a dream come true. Expect to see a new look, new work, and soon-to-be digital shop where you can bring all those swoon-worthy goodies home. We are just loving our new look and cannot wait to share our latest endeavors.

Smith Home Field Trips is one of your favorite features on our Instagram. Here on the blog, we will be going a little deeper and giving your tons of recommendations to design an inspiring getaway.

This month, we are featuring summertime in Hunter and Tannersville, NY, where our forthcoming Smith Home A Frame will be launching this Fall (more on that soon).

The newest and coolest place to stay is the Rounds at Scribners Lodge(scribnerslodge.com). With your own 12-sided cabin surrounded by nature, you can stargaze at the night sky through the oculus apex in the ceiling. In true Scribners fashion, the Scandinavian vibe is strong. Each cabin is sheathed in gorgeous cedar shake with light wood and stone interiors. Enjoy the Japanese soaking tub and outdoor shower on your own private deck.

Rise early and head to Shadanken Bake to grab coffee and the most delectable goodies. The owner Craig Thompson might be the sweetest baker around, pun intended. Ask him to tell you the story of how he manifested this gorgeous cafe before ever visiting the area. Once you have tasted his baked goods, pies and crumbles, you’ll understand why he sells out every day.

Head on over to explore the double waterfall at Kaaterskill Falls. Park at the top of the falls and make your way down. Its only 1.4 miles round trip but be prepared to get your steps in. Wear shoes with good support and great grip to make it over slippery rocks and tree roots. As the highest cascading waterfall in New York State, enjoy breathtaking views of the Hudson Valley. Enjoy a picnic lunch in your bathing suit over to North-South Lake State Campground afterwards. You can get in some more miles, take a swim, or simply take a well deserved nap and Lake Beach.

For dinner with a crowd or with kids, we love the whimsical Nat’s Mountain House. Here you can sip their delicious Skinny Jeans while playing pinball and pool. Or take it outside on their back lawn and get in a game of corn hole. Highly recommend the fried deviled eggs and the burger and frites. End the evening with a make-your-own ice cream sundae bar.

For a more intimate gathering, try the sweet Hotel Lilian. Find a corner or sit outside at this artfully restored boutique hotel and cocktail bar. Cozy up to the gorgeous wood paneled bar and order yourself a Mountain Thyme while choosing old tunes on their original jukebox. After dinner, find your way to the Library and start a mean game of scrabble. With a DJ every Saturday night, there is enjoyment around every corner. The Catskills will easily become your favorite getaway.
